We envisioned a continuous space between the street and the house, where boundaries dissolve and coexist.
A series of circular columns configure a domestic landscape, where space-structure is the foundational matrix, and the goal is not the object itself but the experience.
The grid structures and supports the program without altering the ground.
The ramp extends the ground and its use, allowing one to look over a landscape of mountains and plains.
The project is located in a peripheral neighborhood southwest of the city of Córdoba. A recently developed neighborhood, like many others expanding around the city. Characterized by a grid layout set upon the plain, in relation to the mountain range, with only streets and service infrastructures.
Within this real estate logic of residential experiments on small lots, the commission emerges for a young single-family home, positioned on two small adjacent lots.
Facing north towards the neighborhood’s main artery and across from a large communal green space, the adjoining lots form a total dimension of 24 meters in width by 22 meters in depth.
As a first response to the site visit, in an arid environment with limited dimensions for developing a family home program, the proposal was to elevate the residential program to the upper floor, thus freeing the entire ground level for public and shared use.
One lot is entirely dedicated to green space, while the other portion of the land accommodates additional living functions.
In relation to 12 circular columns with a diameter of 30 cm, a free program is developed on the ground floor, housing complementary functions such as parking, laundry, and barbecue.
These functions are grouped around a compact core toward the interior of the lot, aiming to maximize open surface space so that life happens around the columns and greenery.
In relation to the connection between public and private, upper and lower levels, the ramp is proposed as an intermediary between these opposing aspects.
With the concept of encouraging movement and extending the ground to the upper floor, the ramp originates and unfolds, reaching a landing/viewpoint before continuing upward to the entrance of the house, where a recessed landing reveals a column, extending the arrival area to embrace the entry.
The commission comes from a young family with two very small daughters, where the main response had to ensure the harmonious coexistence of different ages and space usage.
In relation to these 12 circular columns, a flexible, traditional program is proposed, with individual bedrooms and bathroom cores, but with a focus on circulation and the possibilities it generates.
Thus, the bathroom and kitchen cores are distributed in relation to other spaces, ensuring a continuous flow throughout the house.
The space-structure is the fundamental matrix, where the goal is not the object itself but the experience.
Material and technique pay homage to the art of building. Concrete serves as the defining element of the house’s identity, exploring and exploiting its technical and plastic capabilities to achieve both structural and spatial efficiency.
The experience of living among columns, the honesty of support, the weight, and gravity.
