We envisioned a large continuous table, where the boundaries are marked by the use and appropriation of space.
Variable over time, individual and/or shared: the table for everyone.
The idea of a straight line in space, crossing and connecting the inside with the outside, a flexible program that respects the pre-existence, accompanies development, and enhances it.
A hybrid proposal that combines the gastronomic experience with professional work. The idea is to dissolve the public/private boundaries, housing them at the same table. Open the institution to the city and invite the citizen to enter. From here comes the decision to recover the topography in relation to the street, continue the sidewalk extension, and create a continuous seating area—a threshold under the tree—that gathers and is appropriated by the public, without altering the institution’s composition.
Two 12-meter-long wooden beams form the space. A large continuous table that allows for the celebration of coffee, public service, and an invitation to share the space horizontally.
Behind it, the support: the space dedicated to the function, which is the result of the experience. But at the same time, we offer a shop space to display products and a library space to accompany the enjoyment of the meeting.
We wanted a proposal that understands the concept of being variable over time, with a beginning and an end. That’s why we focused on its adaptability, to alter the space it occupies as little as possible, as well as systems of interlocking pieces to assemble the whole.
However, we understood that this concept could not overlook the new interpretation of space. It needed to have strength and presence to achieve its intended use.
For this, we trusted in the expression of the material and its compositional capacity within the space. We gave space to this expression, allowing its character to shape the unique identity of the café.
